Sustainable Development Report

Overview

The report presents Gold Fields' 2008 sustainable development progress, including development of a Group-wide sustainable development framework and signatory status with the United Nations Global Compact. Safety performance remained a major focus, with 47 Group fatal accidents recorded in F2008, while ten level 3 environmental incidents were reported and investigated. The company completed a carbon-footprint study using ISO 14064-1 and the GHG reporting protocol and submitted the resulting information to CDP. HDSA procurement spend reached R1.8 billion, representing 40 per cent of working cost and capital materials spend.
