Stewardship Report

Overview

The report describes Smithfield's 2004 stewardship efforts across environmental management, employee safety and animal welfare. The company reports system-wide ISO 14001 certification for U.S. processing facilities and Murphy-Brown farms, 16 energy-saving projects that reduced annual energy demand costs by more than $4.2 million, and biomethanol production from hog waste. It also documents formal safety-management initiatives and continued implementation and auditing of the Animal Welfare Management System.
