Overview

The report presents Smithfield's fourth CSR report at a GRI-checked B application level. It reports 2008 environmental performance, including 1.35 million metric tons of CO2 from company plants, and introduces baseline environmental data for wholly owned Polish and Romanian operations. The report also describes a global workforce of 52,400 employees and extensive programs covering animal welfare, food safety, communities, and employee safety. Non-financial data was internally reviewed but not externally assured.
