Environmental Report

Overview

The report describes UPM's paper and pulp mills' environmental management, including ISO 14001 certification across the mills, extensive European EMAS registration, and certified Chain of Custody systems for wood fibre. It highlights group-level goals to reduce effluent, fresh water use and landfill waste. More than half of fuels used by UPM were CO2-neutral biofuels at the end of 2008. Accredited verifiers audited the joint report information for the European mills under the EMAS framework.
