Overview

The report describes WH Group's 2017 group-wide sustainability governance, including a Board-level ESG Committee and stakeholder-based materiality analysis. It reports 9,019 Million kWh of total energy use, 66.54 Million cubic meters of water consumption, and 2,440,202 metric tons of combined Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions, with the latter excluding Smithfield's hog-production emissions. The report also highlights completion of group housing for pregnant sows on Smithfield-owned farms and a workforce of approximately 110,000 employees. Community initiatives included 12,181 employee volunteer hours and $20 million of food donations.
