Overview

The report presents Anglo American's 2012 sustainable development performance across a large, managed mining portfolio. Safety remained a major focus: 13 people lost their lives in work-related activities, while the Group continued its zero-harm programme. Water stewardship was a prominent achievement, with 72% of operational water requirements met through recycling or re-use. Reported Group Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions totaled 17.88 Mt CO2e, alongside a workforce headline of 136,319 employees and contractors.
