Overview

The report describes FY09 as a year of improved operational and safety indicators but records 22 people losing their lives at work. The group employed 45 685 people at year-end, including 38 295 permanent employees and 7 390 full-time contractors. Environmental disclosures report South African Scope 1 and 2 emissions of 4 183 373 tonnes CO2e, PNG Scope 1 and 2 emissions of 43 714 tonnes CO2e, and approximately 32% of water used recycled.
