Sustainability Report

Overview

The report presents HSBC's 2008 sustainability priorities across climate change, sustainable finance, employee policies and community investment. It reports 325,000 year-end employees, US$102.4m in charitable donations and 694,000 hours of employee community volunteering. HSBC states it has been carbon neutral since 2005; 2008 total CO2 emissions were 954,000 tonnes before renewable-energy-certificate deductions, while total energy consumption was 1,884 gigawatt hours. PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP provided limited assurance over selected emissions/offsets and Equator Principles information.
