Overview

The report presents HSBC's 2009 sustainability priorities across low-carbon finance, sustainability risk in lending, employees, communities, customer trust, operations and supply chain. It reports 302,000 employees at year-end, 1,812 GWh of total energy consumption, 62 kilotonnes of waste and 4,474 thousand m3 of water consumption. HSBC states that it has been carbon neutral since 2005 and reports 991,000 tonnes of total CO2 emissions before renewable energy certificates. Independent limited assurance by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP covers the Equator Principles application and emissions and offsets.
