Sustainable Development Report

Overview

The report presents Kumba's 2008 sustainable development performance across safety, health, environmental management, employees, economic contribution and community development. It reports one workplace fatality, a 9.14% reduction in energy consumption and a 10.8% reduction in water consumption, while CO2 emissions increased to 573,833 tonnes. The report also records a total workforce of 10,260, including 5,363 contractors, and approximately R79 million spent on community and social development. Kumba's GRI G3-based disclosures received reasonable assurance from PricewaterhouseCoopers over identified sustainability information.
