Overview

The report presents the Merafe Group's 2011 performance across its mining and ferrochrome operations and Xstrata-Merafe Chrome Venture. Safety was a major focus after two fatalities, followed by safety summits, revised training and risk-management actions. The Venture reported 12,955 total workers including contractors, Scope 1 and 2 emissions of 7,380,840 t CO2-e, total energy use of 18,540,201 GJ and water consumption of 11,495 MI. Sustainability information was independently assured by SustainabilityServices.co.za under AA1000AS Type II (Moderate), with the report assessed as meeting GRI G3 Application Level B.
