The report describes the company's 2020/21 materiality analysis and its METRO SUSTAINABLE approach, which covers eight focus areas and prioritizes responsible products, conscious consumption and food-waste reduction. It identifies the Sustainability Committee as the highest sustainability body and links sustainability performance to executive remuneration. The company tightened its climate ambition to make global business operations carbon neutral by 2040, while retaining quantified 2030 Scope 1 and 2 intensity and Scope 3 reduction targets. The report also details group-wide initiatives on energy efficiency, food waste, responsible sourcing, human rights, diversity and occupational safety.
