Annual Report

The report describes Rio Tinto's 2013 focus on improving shareholder value while reporting substantial operational and sustainability performance. It records production and cost achievements, but also three fatalities at managed operations and continued work toward zero harm. Environmental highlights include a 17.3 per cent reduction in GHG emissions intensity from 2008 and a 6.1 per cent reduction in freshwater use per tonne of product. Selected sustainable-development subject matter was externally reviewed by PricewaterhouseCoopers under a limited assurance engagement.
