Sustainable Development Report

The report presents Rio Tinto's 2015 sustainability performance across climate, energy, people and safety. It reports 31.3 million tonnes of total GHG emissions and 433 petajoules of energy use, while 55,000 people were employed across the Group. Safety performance improved, but four people lost their lives at managed operations. The company achieved a 21.1 per cent reduction in GHG emissions intensity against its 2008 baseline and extended its target to a 24 per cent reduction by 2020.
