Overview

The report presents Shell's attempt to show that economic performance and social and environmental responsibilities can coexist. It reports 8 employee and 61 contractor fatalities worldwide in 1997, alongside 23 detected staff bribery cases, each resulting in termination. It also reproduces independent verification of Business Principles adoption and selected 1997 data by KPMG Accountants N.V. and Price Waterhouse. A Road Map sets out the Group's planned evolution toward integrated social-accountability reporting.
