Overview

The report describes a difficult 2011 for the solar industry, with falling prices, excess capacity and intense competition reducing SolarWorld's revenue to approximately €1.0 billion and prompting major restructuring and impairment actions. The company focused production on its integrated Freiberg and Hillsboro sites while continuing international expansion and product innovation. Sustainability reporting followed GRI G3.1 and supported UN Global Compact progress reporting. Groupwide greenhouse gas emissions were reported as almost constant at 189 thousand tCO2eq, alongside a first reported product emission intensity of 0.8 kg CO2eq/Wp.
