Tiakina Te Taiao Sustainability Monitoring Report

Overview

The report establishes Waka Kotahi's first sustainability monitoring baseline for a low carbon, safe and healthy land transport system. It reports road transport greenhouse gas emissions of 11,700 kilotonnes in 2018 and corporate travel emissions of 5,004 tonnes of CO2-equivalent in 2019, with flights the dominant source. It also identifies biodiversity exposure across the state highway network, reports 15,000 tonnes of recycled materials in maintenance contracts, and records 93 percent compliance with environmental consent conditions as at March 2020. The report sets out future work to improve data collection and establish targets.
